What to pack for your first contract

Must-haves

• Passport + visa documents (carry on body)
• Vaccination record if required
• Black-soled non-slip work shoes (multiple pairs)
• Multiple sets of work uniform basics (black socks, white undershirts, etc.)
• Universal power adapter
• Unlocked phone + eSIM-capable if possible
• Headphones / earphones
• A water bottle that won't break in luggage
• A small first-aid kit with the medications you actually use
• Plain clothes for shore leave and crew bar

Nice-to-haves

• A power strip (cabin outlets are limited)
• A small laundry bag
• Snacks from home for the first week of homesickness
• Photos to put up in your cabin

Don't bother bringing

• Bedding — provided.
• A lot of liquor — duty-free has it, and overweight bags are expensive.
• Anything you'd be sad to lose. Cabins can be small and turnover is common.

• Passport (every page used)
• Visa
• Seaman's book if you have one
• STCW certificates
• Vaccination record
• Contract
